Travel Inspo: How To Style Scarves In The Summer

Hey girl heyyy!

Summer is the absolute best time to rock your sassy scarves. We often associate scarves with colder weather, but darling, let me tell you, scarves were made for summer. Especially twill silk scarves, thanks to their breathable material, lightweight feel, and the effortless flow of the fabric. Add in our bold colors and prints? It’s a match made in heaven for warm-weather glam.

All of our scarves are designed with travel and packability in mind first. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve taken a scarf from the handle of my handbag to drape over my legs or shoulders on a chilly airplane. Or turned one from a sarong into a headwrap while beachside. Too many times to count!

The inspiration behind each design always starts with memories and lived experiences. Take the Santina Scarf, for example, born from the beauty of Greece. The food, the views while yachting on the Mediterranean, the belly laughs that only art could ever attempt to capture. Pictures don’t do those moments justice. So we translated that feeling of tranquility, peace, and pure contentment into this blissful work of art.

Style tip: Try tying the Santina Scarf onto a solid-colored handbag for an easy pop of color and personality. And when you walk into brunch with your girls? The flow that catches in the breeze as you glide in, unmatched.

Ask any Sassy Girl and she’ll tell you: our scarves are both life savers and style upgraders.
(Ha! That rhymed. I’m basically a rapper now, lol!)

Another thing you’ll love?

Tying our scarves as a headband. And the best part is, there’s no wrong way to do it! That’s the beauty of using style as an expressive art form: it’s yours. No one can tell you it’s wrong, girl, because it’s your own offering of visual vocabulary to the world.

So whether you tie it as a headband or a bandana, feel the freedom to totally make it your own.

Now me? I’ve got a slight obsession with underwater sea life and bright colors, and that absolutely shows up in our designs. This particular one reminds me of the grandeur I felt when I overcame one of my biggest fears: jumping off a boat and swimming in the ocean without a life jacket for the first time.

Let me set the scene:

My girlfriends and I had a private catamaran chartered for our trip to Aruba, and honestly, I was mostly looking forward to dancing the day away to our pre-planned playlist (yes, full of Jeezy and Juvenile) and indulging in the chef’s delicious food. Midway through the voyage, the captain stopped the boat and asked if we’d like to swim. Everyone had life vests on because we were clearly in the middle of the ocean.

But in that moment, a deep desire rose up in me to conquer a life-long fear. And suddenly, the moment presented itself.

I had everything I needed: the support of my friends, a captain ready to save me if things went south, and… let’s be honest, a little liquid courage. 😅

Before I jumped, I stood at the edge of the boat and sobbed. Like, full-on cried for five minutes straight. I was an emotional wreck. WHY was my life flashing before my eyes? WHY were my limbs shaking? WHY couldn’t I just jump off that darn boat?

And if that isn’t just like life...

The ‘captain’ reminded me that He would protect me if anything went wrong. I was free to jump.

So as Beyoncé’s PURE/HONEY counted down,
Four, three… too freakin’ busy.

I pushed myself off that boat. And I swam. I used my basic strokes and allowed the ocean to support me. And I did it again. And again. And again.

On my final jump, the captain tossed bread into the water, attracting a swirl of fish around me. LIKE WHYYYYY would he do that?! I screamed! I was sure to be eaten by a huge great white shark that swallowed brown girls for lunch!

He laughed and said, “Look down into the ocean!”

I hesitated, then looked, and saw the most beautiful rainbow of fish and coral beneath me. OMG. There was a whole other world under the surface: peaceful, colorful, and absolutely breathtaking.

That moment? I’ll never forget it. As if it couldn’t get more divine, a rainbow appeared in the sky…a personal sign from my grandfather who passed years ago. It was his way of saying, “I see you. I’m proud.”

I offer these memories as art.

Let’s do one more!!

This styling tip is super simple…and probably my all-time fave. Try cowl-necking your scarf. Just fold it into a ‘V’ and tie it into a loose knot. The 33” x 33” size is perfect for this because it doubles as a super lightweight necklace and naturally shifts throughout the day, fluidly creating new shapes as it moves.

Pro tip: Leave more of the loose ends on one side of the knot so it forms a bow once tied. It’s just darling, darling!!
